Lindsay Hoyt — Building a School, A Foundation for our Future — Part One

Episode Summary

Lindsay Hoyt works hard. A mom, business woman, 10+ years in sales and talent acquisition, fundraising, media and grassroots mobilization in Washington, DC — she held an impressive resume when she returned to Jacksonville, Florida. With school options for her children that didn’t satisfy, Lindsay said, “I’m going to open a school.” And she did. The concept for Cornerstone Classical Academy was born in 2018 and doors opened in 2020. (Yes, this miracle happened during a global pandemic.) Starting a school of this magnitude is no small feat; and Lindsay shares in this first episode of our two-part series how the foundation is laid, brick by brick. In its first year, the school had 431 students. Now, in its second year, 645 students make up K-7th grades with a vision of K-12th and 1200 students in the next five years. The school offers a classical education and is guided by the classical philosophy of education. It is a tuition-free public school that is privately managed and operates under a contract (or charter). This contract frees the charter school from some of the restrictions of a standard public school. Lindsay’s mission continues to unfold for our future generations. Was her vision too big — a tuition-free, classical education for children providing a school for deep learning and an option that didn’t exist? Well, get a dose of what big vision can create with this week's episode and part two dropping November 11.

Episode Notes

Ask Lindsay Hoyt what it takes to start a school and she’ll tell you — the good, the bad, the intensities and the joys. (and everything else!) She's not afraid. And she's got quite a story to share.

Making a difference — for her own kids, but also for all children — was her calling. And she stopped at nothing. Her vision — a tuition-free, classical education for children providing a school for deep learning and an option that didn’t exist became a reality in 2020. In this first episode of our two-part series, Lindsay shares the start, laying the foundation, the challenges, and the miracles that brought Cornerstone Classical Academy into existence.
